A bottled water station has been set up in Netherton as the repair work continues

Engineers are set to work through the night to restore water to households across Merseyside.

People living in the L21, L30, L9, L23, L10 and L22 postcodes are currently without water or are experiencing low water pressure due to a burst main on Church Road/Dunnings Bridge Road in Litherland. A section of the road remains closed in both directions from Park Lane to Hawthorne Road after it was submerged in water in the early hours of Saturday.

United Utilities are still at the scene 15 hours later and teams will be working through the night to make the necessary repairs. The water company said it hopes to be able to get water flowing to the majority of households within the next few hours, but some customers may be affected for longer.

Bottled water will be available at Netherton Activity Centre on Glovers Lane until 9.30pm. One resident described the incident as a "nightmare" while another said they "can't even flush the toilet".

United Utilities said in a statement this evening: "Once again our sincere apologies for the disruption to your water supply today.

"Our teams are working hard to isolate the pipework affected and we will be working through the night to make the necessary repairs. This may take some time so we are bringing in water from other areas of our network and using water tankers so that we can get water to your taps again.

"We hope to be able to get the water flowing for the majority of customers within the next few hours, some customers may be affected for longer but we will keep you updated with our progress. In the meantime, we have set up a bottled water station at Netherton Activity Centre, Glovers Lane, L30 3TL that will be there until 21:30pm.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing and thank you for your patience."

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “One of the water mains on Church Road burst in the early hours of Saturday (23rd July) morning. United Utilities staff are at the site and will be working through the night to make the necessary repairs.

”Residents can get the latest update by checking the United Utilities website - https://www.unitedutilities.com/emergencies/up-my-street/l21-liverpool/ The repairs may take some time so United Utilities are bringing in water from other areas of the network and using water tankers to help with this so they can get water to taps.

”United Utilities hope to be able to get water flowing for the majority of residents in the next few hours, some will be affected for longer but will be kept updated on progress. In the meantime, United Utilities have a bottle water station set up at Netherton Activity Centre, Glovers Lane, L30 3TL that will be there until 21:30.

”A section of Dunnings Bridge Road was closed earlier today as a result of the burst water mains. People travelling in the area are advised to plan their route.”
