A federal judge said Tuesday that he’s likely to give the EPA until July 31 to decide whether it will require companies and some government facilities to report their environmental releases of a plastic softener.

Judge Haywood S. Gilliam Jr. said he’s inclined to give the Environmental Protection Agency more time to decide whether it will add diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and related chemicals to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI).
